Graphic Design Interlude: Phoenix Masthead
November 27, 2009
I’ll return to the WIP here in a little bit (I’ve got two ink versions to post), but I wanted to post some work that I did for the the student newspaper that I’m advising. Turns out the 9th grader who was supposed to get it done is finished, so we’ll probably use hers instead of mine. So I wanted to post it somewhere for folks to see.
WIP, hopefully

Step 1 of a work in progress that I’m tentatively entitling “happybeerjump”. The idea here is that I should take something, anything, beyond the sketch phase. To the next step. To the next level. Amped up. Or something. Anyways, here’s the image in its current phase:
Let’s hope I can take it … anywhere.
Holy Crap, Color

I played around on Niko’s paintchat the other day, and I was pretty impressed. It has a nice interface, and it was fun to do some sketching in a social setting. This is a pic grabbed from a handy magazine for the occaition. It’s notable in that it actually uses color! I could have worked more on this, but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.
More to come here in the future!

Some pages culled from my moleskine:

I liked how this page turned out. Source: National Geographic

An experiment in doing a highly-detailed Landscape. Source: Ticket Magazine
I experimented with some custom lettering in these, but it quickly became apparent that I had no idea what I was doing.
What’s all this then?

Greetings to everyone out there in Internet-land. If you’re reading this, then you’ve somehow stumbled upon my artblog-in-the-wilderness. Welcome! I’m a hobbyist and an amateur, and this is my place for me to post a stream of images and random musings about my art and art in general. It’s likely not going to be terribly useful to anyone but myself, but it’s an experiment that I hope will at best yeild some interesting fruit and at worst just become yet another decaying signpost in my own personal datastream. We’ll see.
